Finance Calculators
Loans, interest, savings, investment and personal money planning.
- 401(k) Calculator Project a 401(k) balance, and find out exactly how much employer match is being left on the table — the one guaranteed return in the whole plan.
- 50/30/20 Budget Calculator Your actual split against the rule — including the income the rule would need to work for your fixed costs, when it does not fit.
- Amortization Calculator See a loan broken down year by year — how much of each payment is interest, when the balance is half repaid, and what an overpayment does to all of it.
- Annuity Calculator What a pension pot buys as guaranteed income, how long you must live to get it back, and why the annuity rate is not a return.
- APR Calculator Work out the true APR once fees are folded in — and the three things APR leaves out, including what compounding actually costs you.
- APY Calculator Turn a savings rate into its APY, compare two accounts that compound differently, or work back from an advertised APY to the rate behind it.
- ARV Calculator Estimate a property's after repair value from comparable sales per square foot, with the value range and the maximum offer by the 70% rule.
- Auto Loan Calculator Work out a car loan payment including sales tax, fees and a trade-in — and see how long you would owe more than the car is worth.
- Barista FIRE Calculator Work out your Barista FIRE number, the savings that let part-time work cover the rest of your spending, and how long it takes to reach it.
- Basis Points Calculator Convert basis points to percentage points, apply a rate change in bps, or find the gap between two rates, with the yearly cost on a loan.
- Bond Yield Calculator Coupon rate, current yield and yield to maturity side by side — and what the bond returns if you spend the coupons instead of reinvesting them.
- Budget Calculator A monthly budget that counts the bills that are not monthly — which is the line most budgets leave out and the reason most budgets fail.
- Car Affordability Calculator What a car really costs to own, and how many months you spend owing more than it is worth — the two questions the monthly payment cannot answer.
- Car Scrap Value Calculator Estimate what a scrap yard will pay for your car from its curb weight and the price per ton, with the catalytic converter, towing and missing parts.
- CD Calculator Work out what a certificate of deposit pays at maturity, what the lock-up is actually buying over easy access, and what breaking it early costs.
- Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Calculator Estimate a Chapter 13 plan payment from disposable income, priority debts, secured arrears and assets, with what unsecured creditors may receive.
- Closing Costs Calculator The cash you actually need on completion day — deposit plus fees, with prepaid tax and insurance separated out from the fees themselves.
- Compound Interest Calculator Compound a balance and regular contributions, and see the year growth finally overtakes what you have put in — which is later than most people expect.
- Covered Call Calculator Calculate the premium income, returns if called or not, breakeven and maximum profit when you sell a covered call on shares you own.
- Credit Card Payoff Calculator What paying the minimum actually costs — modelled as a percentage of the balance, which is what makes a card debt last for decades.
- Debt Consolidation Calculator Compares consolidation on total cost rather than the monthly payment, and separates a better rate from a longer term.
- Debt Snowball Calculator Snowball against avalanche, with both computed — so you can see exactly what choosing the motivating order costs in money.
- Debt to Income Calculator The ratio lenders use, and the one your bank account experiences — which is always larger, because DTI is calculated on gross income.
- Dividend Calculator Project dividend income with yield on cost, reinvestment, and the total return — because a yield on its own tells you almost nothing.
- Dollar Cost Averaging Calculator Averaging in against a lump sum, with both computed — including the finding most calculators leave out, which is that the lump sum usually wins.
- Down Payment Calculator How much deposit you need and how long it takes to save — counting the fact that house prices move while you are saving, so the target moves too.
- Emergency Fund Calculator Size an emergency fund from your essential costs and your actual circumstances, rather than the one-size-fits-all three to six months.
- Future Value Calculator What an amount today and a stream of payments become — and what delaying the start by a few years actually costs, which is far more than the payments missed.
- Home Equity Calculator How much equity you have, how much of it you could actually borrow against, and how much of it you earned rather than the market handing you.
- Hourly to Salary Calculator What hourly rate actually matches a salary, once unpaid leave, employer pension and the security you are not getting are priced in.
- House Flipping Calculator Work out the profit, ROI and annualised return on a house flip after buying costs, repairs, holding costs, loan interest and selling costs.
- Inflation Calculator What money is worth at another point in time — and whether a pay rise actually was one, which is the question people usually arrive with.
- Interest Rate Calculator Work backwards to the rate: from a loan quoted only as a monthly payment, from something that grew, or from a savings target you want to hit.
- Investment Calculator Project an investment with the two things a compound interest calculator leaves out: annual charges, and the gap between an average return and a compounded one.
- IRA Calculator Project an IRA, see exactly how much the income phase-out reduces your contribution, and where an IRA belongs in the order of accounts.
- IRR Calculator The rate a project's cash flows imply — with the reinvestment assumption made explicit, and a warning when the flows have more than one valid answer.
- Loan Calculator Work out the monthly payment on a loan, the total interest it will cost, and how long it takes to clear — or work backwards from a payment you can afford.
- Loan Payoff Calculator Start from the balance you owe today and see how fast you can clear it — and whether a lump sum or a monthly overpayment does more for your money.
- Mortgage Affordability Calculator Work backwards from your income to the price a lender would approve, through both debt-to-income limits — and see which one is actually holding you back.
- Mortgage Calculator The full monthly cost of a mortgage — principal, interest, property tax, insurance and PMI — with the date the mortgage insurance drops off.
- Net Present Value Calculator Discount a project's cash flows back to today, and see the discount rate at which the decision flips — because that rate is an assumption, not a fact.
- Net Worth Calculator Assets minus liabilities, and then the figure that actually governs decisions — how much of it you could reach this month.
- Overtime Calculator What overtime actually pays after tax — and the point at which extra hours start being worth materially less than the earlier ones.
- Pakistan Income Tax Calculator Salaried income tax under the slab system, with every slab editable — because they are set by the annual Finance Act and change most years.
- Paycheck Calculator Gross to net at your own rates — with the thing payslips hide, which is that a pension contribution costs far less than its percentage.
- Pension Calculator What a defined benefit pension pays, and the capital sum it is actually worth — which is usually far more than people assume.
- Personal Loan Calculator Work out a personal loan payment and the true APR once the origination fee is deducted — because the money that reaches you is less than the amount you repay.
- Present Value Calculator What money arriving later is worth today — and, for a lump sum against a stream of payments, the exact rate at which the two offers are equal.
- Property Tax Calculator Property tax from market value through assessment ratio and exemptions, with the effective rate — the only figure comparable between places.
- Refinance Calculator Compare staying put against refinancing: the monthly saving, the break-even on fees, and whether restarting the clock costs more than the lower rate saves.
- Rent vs Buy Calculator Compares net wealth rather than monthly payments, counting what the deposit would earn invested and what it costs to both buy and sell.
- Rent vs Sell Calculator Compare selling your home now and investing the proceeds with renting it out for a few years and selling later, on wealth at the end.
- Retirement Calculator Both halves of the problem: what the pot grows to, and whether it survives being drawn down once the income rises with inflation every year.
- ROI Calculator Work out return on investment including costs and income, annualise it so it can be compared, and separate the return on your cash from the return on the deal.
- Rule of 72 Calculator How long money takes to double, the exact answer beside the shortcut, and the rate where the rule of 72 is precisely right.
- Salary Calculator Convert a salary between every period — and work out what you are really paid per hour once unpaid overtime and leave are counted.
- Sales Tax Calculator Add tax to a price or take it back out — with the subtraction error shown beside the right answer, because it is exactly the square of the rate.
- Savings Calculator Project a savings plan in today's money, after tax — or find the monthly amount a goal needs once inflation has been allowed for.
- Savings Goal Calculator Put up to three goals against one monthly budget, and find out whether funding them one at a time reaches all of them when funding them at once does not.
- Seller Financing Calculator Work out the monthly payment on a seller-financed home sale, the balloon payment due and the interest the seller earns over the loan.
- Settlement Tax Calculator Estimate what you keep from a lawsuit settlement after attorney fees, costs and federal tax, for physical injury, employment or other claims.
- Severance Package Calculator Estimate a severance package from salary, years of service and weeks per year, with unused PTO, tax withholding and how many months it covers.
- Simple Interest Calculator Solve I = P × r × t in any direction, with the gap against compound interest shown so you can see when the distinction actually matters.
- Stock Return Calculator Price return and total return side by side, because every price chart leaves the dividends out — and over decades they are most of the result.
- Student Loan Calculator See what a student loan really costs once interest accrued during study capitalises — and what the subsidised label is worth in money.
- UK Capital Gains Tax Calculator Capital gains tax at 18% and 24%, with the basic rate band shared between your income and your gain — which is why a 50,000 salary leaves only 270 of it.
- UK Income Tax Calculator Income tax and National Insurance with the thresholds as inputs — including the 60% band between £100,000 and £125,140 that no table of rates shows.
- UK Stamp Duty Calculator Stamp duty band by band, with the additional property surcharge and the one real cliff: first-time buyer relief, which vanishes rather than tapers.
- US Capital Gains Tax Calculator Federal tax on a gain, with the 0/15/20 bands stacked the way they really work — and the room left in the 0% band, which is the number worth acting on.
- US Income Tax Calculator Federal income tax and FICA, with the bracket myth settled by computing take-home either side of a crossing rather than asserting it.
- VAT Calculator Add or remove VAT, work out a VAT return, and test the flat rate scheme against standard accounting — including the point where the scheme stops paying.
- Vehicle Diminished Value Calculator Estimate a car's diminished value after an accident with the 17c formula, from its pre-accident value, damage severity and mileage.
- Vehicle Scrap Value Calculator Break down the scrap value of a car, truck, van or motorcycle by metal: steel, aluminum and copper, plus the battery and catalytic converter.

- Workers Compensation Calculator Estimate weekly workers' compensation wage-loss benefits from your average weekly wage, state limits and time off, for total or partial disability.
A Guide to Finance Calculators
Money questions are rarely about arithmetic. The arithmetic of a mortgage payment is a single line of algebra. What makes the question hard is that the answer depends on assumptions you did not know you were making, and most calculators bury them.
The seventy-five calculators here are grouped by the decision you are actually trying to make. Each one states its assumptions on the page, shows the steps, and where a quantity has no closed-form answer it solves for it numerically rather than pretending a rough formula is exact. This guide points you at the right group and warns you about the places where the standard approach goes wrong.
Mortgages and property
Eleven calculators, and the order matters. Work out what you can borrow before you fall in love with a house: the Mortgage Affordability Calculator starts from income and commitments, and the Down Payment Calculator turns a savings position into a purchase price.
Then the Mortgage Calculator for the payment itself, with the Closing Costs Calculator for the sum people routinely forget until a week before completion. The Home Equity Calculator tracks what you own as the balance falls, and the Refinance Calculator answers whether moving your loan is worth the fees, which is a break-even question rather than a rate comparison.
Three cover decisions rather than payments. Rent vs Buy and Rent vs Sell weigh total cost over a holding period instead of comparing a rent against a payment, which is the usual mistake. The Seller Financing Calculator handles the case where the owner is the lender.
For investors, the ARV Calculator estimates after-repair value and the House Flipping Calculator nets it against holding and selling costs.
Loans and credit
Seven loan calculators plus four for debt. The Loan Calculator is the general one and runs in four directions: it will solve for the payment, the amount you can borrow, the term, or the rate you are actually being charged. That last mode exists because a rate is the one quantity in the set with no closed-form solution, so it is found by bisection rather than approximated.
The Amortization Calculator shows the whole schedule, which is the clearest way to see how little of an early payment touches the principal. The Loan Payoff Calculator prices the effect of paying extra, and the Personal Loan and Student Loan calculators handle the terms specific to each.
The Auto Loan Calculator and Car Affordability Calculator deal with a loan secured against an asset that is falling in value faster than the balance, which is why the auto loan calculator reports when you are underwater and when you climb out. On a typical 84-month loan with no deposit, that is month fifty.
For existing debt, the Debt to Income Calculator gives the ratio lenders judge you by, while Debt Snowball and Debt Consolidation compare strategies on total interest and time rather than on which feels better. The Credit Card Payoff Calculator shows what a minimum payment really costs, which is the single most persuasive figure in personal finance.
Interest, and why there are five calculators for it
The Simple Interest Calculator and Compound Interest Calculator are the foundation. The Interest Rate Calculator solves backwards for the rate.
The other two exist because of a distinction that costs people real money. APR includes fees and is what a borrowing cost should be compared on; APY includes compounding and is what a savings return should be compared on. A rate quoted without saying which convention it uses is not comparable to anything.
The Rule of 72 Calculator is the shortcut, and it is close enough to be worth knowing: at 3 percent inflation money halves in buying power in about 23 years.
Investing
Ten calculators. The Investment Calculator and Stock Return Calculator cover growth and realised return, ROI the general ratio, and the Dividend Calculator income rather than appreciation.
The Bond Yield Calculator is the most technical here. Yield to maturity assumes every coupon is reinvested at the same yield, and the calculator reports the return if you do not reinvest at all, so you can see how much of the quoted yield depends on that assumption. Both figures are annualised on the same basis, which sounds obvious and is where most implementations go wrong: compare an effective annual return against a nominal semiannual yield and a zero-coupon bond appears to have a reinvestment gap, which is impossible, since it has no coupons to reinvest.
The Dollar Cost Averaging Calculator compares staged buying against a lump sum, the Covered Call Calculator prices the trade-off in capping your upside, and the Basis Points Calculator converts the unit rates are quoted in. The Inflation Calculator is the one to run before you admire any long-run return.
Time value of money
Five calculators for the idea that a sum has a different value depending on when it arrives. Present Value and Future Value are the two directions, the Annuity Calculator handles a stream rather than a single sum, and NPV and IRR are the two ways to judge a project. IRR has no closed form either, so it is solved numerically and the calculator says so.
Retirement and saving
The Retirement Calculator is the general projection, with the 401(k), IRA and Pension calculators for specific vehicles. The Barista FIRE Calculator handles partial retirement, where part-time income reduces how much the portfolio has to carry.
Nearer term, the Emergency Fund Calculator sizes the buffer, Savings and Savings Goal work forwards and backwards from a target, and the CD Calculator prices a fixed term.
Income and budgeting
The Salary Calculator and Hourly to Salary Calculator convert between pay bases, the Paycheck Calculator works out take-home, and the Overtime Calculator handles premium rates.
For planning, the Budget Calculator is the general one, the 50/30/20 Budget Calculator applies the common rule, and the Net Worth Calculator gives the position rather than the flow.
Tax
Tax is the one area where a calculator must be explicit about jurisdiction, because the rules are not similar enough to generalise. There are separate calculators for the UK, the US and Pakistan, plus capital gains for the UK and the US, and UK stamp duty.
The Pakistan calculator shows something worth seeing: the surcharge on high salaries creates a genuine cliff. Take-home falls by about Rs 179,440 as you cross the threshold, and does not recover until roughly Rs 10.39 million of taxable income. A smooth-curve calculator cannot show you that, because it is not smooth.
The VAT Calculator includes flat-rate schemes, where a scheme is only worth taking if the flat rate stays below the standard rate divided by one plus that rate. The Sales Tax Calculator handles the combined state and local case, where applying one rate then another instead of their sum overstates the tax by the product of the two. The Property Tax Calculator works from assessed value and millage.
A standing caution: a tax calculator is only as current as the rates it was written against, and rates change every year. Check the year stated on the page before you rely on a figure.
Legal and employment money
Five calculators for situations people meet once and have no reference for. Severance Package, Workers Compensation, Wage Garnishment, Settlement Tax and Chapter 13 Bankruptcy. Each one states the statutory basis it works from. None of them is legal advice, and all of them are worth running before a conversation with someone who can give you some.
Vehicle value
Three calculators that answer different questions about the same car. Car Scrap Value works from curb weight and the price per ton. Vehicle Scrap Value breaks the same car down by metal, which gives a higher and better-supported figure when you are negotiating. Vehicle Diminished Value is for a car that has been repaired after an accident and is worth less than an equivalent one that has not.
Before you rely on any of these
Every calculator here is an estimate built on stated assumptions, and the assumptions are where the money is. A projection at 7 percent is not a forecast. A tax figure is a guide to the order of magnitude, not a filing. A loan comparison depends on fees that may not be in the quoted rate.
What these calculators do give you is the arithmetic, shown step by step, with the assumption written next to the answer. That is enough to arrive at a conversation with a broker, accountant or lender knowing which questions to ask, which is a better use for them than treating the output as a decision.
